 | Healthsite Overview: Healthlinks | |

Health Links features no medical articles of its own creation, but instead provides a free directory containing links to more than 133,000 websites, with new ones added daily. These include sites for services and products, alternative therapies, medical education, dental resources, hospitals, healthcare related employment, publications and diseases and conditions of all kinds.
In addition to the directory, the website offers a separate navigation box to access free healthcare related classified ads (registration required), a newsletter, mailing lists and discussion forums (registration required to post, but not to read). There’s one link set aside for healthcare related employment opportunities.
The site provides a keyword search engine on every page, with the option to refine your search by location or with additional search terms. Health Links’ navigation bar also highlights links to Featured Sites, Mediwire Topics (previously published articles), Education (ads for colleges and training), available Clinical Trials (in association with CenterWatch), Multimedia/Healthology Videos (see our separate review), and What’s New and What’s Cool.
The link to Highbeam Research takes you to an outside site that enables keyword searching of more than 35 million documents. These include articles from newspapers, magazines, books, journals and transcripts, images and maps, and encyclopedias, dictionaries and almanacs – and not necessarily health related. To view many of the full-text documents, you’ll need to sign up for a seven-day trial membership, and pay a fee thereafter.
The Mailing Lists link takes you to a page where you can choose from more than 100 healthcare topics. Specific drugs (Lipitor, Paxil, Rogaine), “Care and Help” topics (for example, how to stop snoring) and non-life-threatening diseases are available on the lists. Those who sign up receive information and targeted advertising by email.
The site is owned by HealthLinks.net Ltd. The sales contact is Willard Farnham of Twentynine Palms, California.
