By visiting Healthology.com and clicking on the Health Topics link, you’ll be directed to articles and, especially, free patient-friendly videos about a long list of diseases and conditions.
 This video-heavy website features a Daily Video, such as “A Guide to Migraines.” Transcripts accompany all the videos, so you can verify the spelling of drug names or read parts that you may have missed while watching the video.
You’ll find even more videos by clicking the Health Library link. Here is a second video that changes daily (for example, “Chemotherapy Options for Early Breast Cancer”), and a Special Health Presentations box with videos on more specialized topics (“Treating Nerve Damage From Diabetes”). At this writing, the page features several multiple sclerosis videos, including “Navigating the Medicare Maze to Treat MS,” which focuses on how to help pay for the therapy described in the other videos. A few additional, unrelated topics, mostly videos, round out the page.
Unlike most such websites, Healthology says that its programs are developed entirely by health professionals, although there are a few webcasts by medical journalists on non-technical subjects (such as one on how to choose a doctor). The Faculty link lists these contributors, with links to their biographies and to their webcasts (videos or occasionally audio broadcasts) on the site. Pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers seem to support most of the content on the site, often through unrestricted educational grants.
The Resources link lists many disease-specific websites, such as YeastInfectionResource.com, and much more general websites, such as HealthU.com, that have content developed by Healthology.com for its clients. There’s a brief description of each website so you can decide if it’s right for you before following the link. Elsewhere on the site you’ll find “Health Polls” to take, a link to sign up for specialized newsletters, and advertisements with links to videos on specific diseases.
Two physicians started Healthology, Inc. in 1997 to develop physician-generated medical information for education and marketing purposes.
